Team Canada has confirmed that Brad Marchand will enter the lineup for their next game to open the bracket round, and there could potentially be a change in goal too.
Marchand has sat out the last two games as he’s believed to be playing through an injury. If there is another change coming, it could be surrounding Canada’s most controversial selection with goalie Jordan Binnington.
Team Canada confirms line change to open bracket rounds
Speaking to media, Coach Jon Cooper confirmed that Brad Marchand will return to play in their next game, which will be the Quarterfinals of the tournament on February 18th.
Seth Jarvis was the player to enter the lineup in Marchand’s absence, which makes him the most likely player to come out when the veteran pest returns. He’ll likely skate on the 4th line, or perhaps as their 13th forward.
If there is another change coming for Team Canada, it could be a change of goaltending after some mixed results from Jordan Binnington. Some analysts believe Canada will consider starting another goalie.
Binnington looked solid with a shutout vs. Czechia, but then allowed some shots by him against a far lesser opponent with France. Stopping just 12 of 14 shots on goal, Canada would’ve liked to see at least one more save.
While Binnington didn’t exactly fare well against France, Logan Thompson played great against Switzerland - arguably the toughest team that Canada has faced so far. Thompson also has far better results in the NHL this season, so by all metrics of merit, he should be the starter for Canada entering the quarterfinal round.
From here on out where every game is a must-win for Team Canada, they need their best possible lineup on the ice. We’ll get Marchand back, and we’ll see if Coach Cooper has the appetite to make the needed change in net as well.
