During the post game of NHL on TNT, former players Paul Bissonnette and Anson Carter trade shots at one another over a hot button topic of no state income tax affecting the NHL.

This topic has been front and centre over the past couple of years as Bissonnette points out that the Florida Panthers hold an unfair advantage with no state tax in the Sunshine State.

Carter quickly dismisses this advantage during discussion

After Bissonnette makes his point, Carter quickly dismisses this notion as he brings up how the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers had poor teams when it comes to quality of talent for quite some time and the idea of no state tax never was brought up before.
NHL fans also chimed in on this tweet as many have stated other professional sports organizations who are in the state of Florida have not fielded many good teams despite having the same advantages as compared to other states who pay high amounts of tax.
This argument has grown as many fans have noticed that the NHL's prominent stars seem to be flocking to teams with no or low-income tax states which allows teams to pay less money per season as the player would still gain close to the full amount of their salary.
Other teams especially in Canada have a higher provincial and federal income tax which causes Canadian teams to pay more in salary due the funds paid in U.S. dollars and the higher income tax the players would face.

Many fans feel this advantage should be addressed in next CBA

The NHL has gone on the record over the past year that they feel this state income tax argument does not warrant any discussions within the next collective bargaining agreement.
Commissioner Gary Bettman has stated that this advantage was not an issue for 20 years and that many players have multiple reasons why they choose the teams they do.
It appears this discussion will continue for quite some time as the NHL continues to feel the way they do and it's not a problem and it remains to be seen on how the future teams will be chosen especially when it comes to free agency.
