Sidney Crosby making late push for Hart trophy

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is making a case for himself to be the Hart trophy winner as he has taken the team on his back and have put them within striking distance of the second wild card spot. After scoring his 40th goal against the Tampa Bay Lightning this afternoon, it's clear but the team is on a mission and to silence the doubters after such a turbulent season.

Since March 26th, the Penguins have won five out of six games and more importantly they are beating division rivals which have helped them leapfrog back into playoff contention. During that stretch Crosby has had nine points in six games which includes five goals.

Crosby has been a beacon of hope for fans as his amazing play and bringing the team together when it seemed the season was down and out certainly should give him some consideration for the Hart trophy.

Many felt the team was calling it a season as general manager Kyle Dubas sold off Jake Guentzel to his rival the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for former Maple Leafs forward Michael bunting and a host of picks and prospects. But for some reason, the team has come together and looks like the team many Penguins fans were expecting.

This year's Hart trophy candidates will be a long list including Oilers superstar Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl which gives Crosby plenty of competition for the prestigious trophy.

With an updated score, the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4 and are now sitting in the playoffs in the second wild card spot for the time being. Certainly, a team that needs to be watched as a dark horse for the playoffs.
