Oilers Coach Kris Knoblauch met with the media today after practice, and updated the injury status of defenceman Alec Regula who has yet to appear with the team at all.
According to Coach Knoblauch this morning, Regula has begun some on-ice activities on his own now, but is still considered out indefinitely.
»He was on the ice today. He was skating, not with us. It's rehabs skates because he spent so much time not practicing. It'll take a while until he's back practicing with us.»
- Coach Knoblauch
He was initially slated to only miss a few weeks at the beginning of training camp, but almost now midway through the season, it's clear Regula has suffered a setback.
Oilers Defenceman Alec Regula Still Considered Out Indefinitely
The Oilers initially seemed to pick up Regula as the team's new 7th defenceman to replace
Travis Dermott, but instead it seems he could have a place in the lineup.
Regula was drafted in the third round by the Red Wings in 2018, and the 6'4 right shot defenceman has actually shown some signs as a promising young player.
»According to the team source, Regula's patience and poise with the puck and ability to pass it are the attributes that intrigue them. The fact that he shoots right is a bonus.»
-Daniel Nugent-Bowman, the Athletic
In 55 games with the AHL's Providence Bruins last year, Regula scored 4 goals, 26 points, and had an impressive +36 on ice rating.
Hopefully Regula can turn a corner in his recovery now that he's back doing on-ice activities, and can begin to showcase his talents for the Oilers.
