According to a prominent user on X known for breaking news on the Ottawa Senators organization, the NHL has told teams to hold off on making trades despite the fact they're eligible.

If the season ends tonight there is a chance we see a flood of moves by Monday. The league has gently nudged teams to let the Stanley Cup finish before they make any moves. While not enforceable the league has offered a suggestion to let the Cup be handed out without distraction.

If the season ends tonight with a Panthers Stanley Cup win in Edmonton, plenty of NHL teams could finalize deals that have been in the works for weeks now. Despite still being in the playoffs, Insider Frank Seravalli has revealed that the Oilers are already speaking to Draisaitl's camp about the details of a contract extension. The Oilers will have more free agents to sign, and across the league other teams have their own trades and signings pending.

It seems that the NHL sent a message to teams to try to hold off on their transactions, presumably to give the Draft and Free Agency more content. Trades and signings create some of the biggest buzz with fans around hockey, and the league knows it's good for business for that action to come at a scheduled time.

Even after the Stanley Cup ends, hockey season hits its stride in the offseason right away with the Draft in Las Vegas and Free Agency on July 1st. No matter how the cup final goes for the Oilers, there will still be plenty of reasons for Oilers fans to be on top of the team in the next couple weeks.
