Chaisson who had hoped he would have a second chance with the Red Wings did not play last year as he had hip surgery in January.
The 34-year-old forward who stands at six foot 4 and 207 pounds had played three seasons with the Edmonton Oilers starting in 2018 and ending in 2021. He saw a decline in production after having a solid output in the 2018-2019 season where he played 73 games, scored 22 goals with 16 assists for 38 points along with 32 penalty minutes.
Throughout his career he played for the Dallas Stars, Ottawa Senators, the Oilers rivals the Calgary Flames along with the Capitals and the Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks.
It remains to be seen on whether he will retire from the game as the Red Wings simply did not have any room for him going into this season. There's a possibility that another team could pick him up if they are looking for depth help especially on their bottom 6 forwards.
It's unlikely the Oilers would have another look at Chaisson as the Oilers have an abundance of bottom 6 forwards who head coach Kris Knoblauch will need to make important decisions within the next several days.
The Oilers will continue their preseason schedule as they will be on the road and play against the Seattle Kraken, game time will be at 10:00 PM eastern.
