Sean Higgins, the suspected drunk driver that struck Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, appeared before a judge this morning for a ruling on bond.

New information was revealed in the court today that Higgins' blood alcohol content was 0.087, according to the Columbus Dispatch. The legal limit is 0.08, so Higgins was legally impaired at the time of the crash.

Judge Michael Silvanio said that he had «significant concerns» about Higgins being released from custody, and ordered him to be held in jail until his next court date on October 15th. Facing two charges, Higgins is looking at up to 20 years in prison.

In the days after the crash, reports emerged that Higgins had admitted to having «5 or 6» beers before driving that night. Investigations from the scene determined that Higgins was trying to pass vehicles on the shoulder, and cycling alongside the road.

Higgins' demeanour in custody and court appearances has been changing too. Higgins has reportedly been extremely remorseful and has made statements about causing himself harm. According to TMZ, Higgins broke down in tears while giving a statement.

Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were struck by Sean Higgins on the night of August 29th, a day before the brothers were set to celebrate their sister's wedding. It's a tragic and shocking loss that's promoted an output of grief from the entire hockey world. Fans everywhere will always remember the impact of Johnny Hockey, and the tragedy that took him and his brother too soon.
