As NHL teams posture themselves and position for the March 3rd trade deadline, many teams assess and change their position as the names fall when they are traded.

The Oilers have been eerily quiet over the last number of days as trade rumours were growing that players like Jesse Pujujarvi would be on the move and that Jakub Chychrun becomes an oiler. That hasn't happened of course and general manager Ken Holland continues to navigate his cap problems.

Sportsnet insider and 32 thoughts podcaster Elliot Friedman mentioned that he feels the entire Western Conference is waiting for two teams to make their moves. One is the Edmonton Oilers, and the other is the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

The news broke that the golden Knights placed mark stone on the long-term injured reserve list as he is recovering from back surgery which created $9.5 million in cap-free spending.

It changed the dynamic and landscape of the trade deadline now that the Vegas Golden Knights will join in looking for that next big player to bolster their lineup.

The Oilers are mentioned numerous times that they are courting the idea of trading for Patrick Kane from the Chicago Blackhawks. Kane put on a show against the Maple Leafs with a natural hat trick together and showing that he still has what it takes to be a playoff performer.

Oilers nation sits and awaits to see what their team will do and my guess is they will do something quite large if possible as they are making their push for the postseason.
