REPORT: Oilers interested in Canadiens defenseman

Published December 9, 2022 at 9:32

A tale as old as time. The Edmonton Oilers have a giant weakness on defence, and the GM has to find someone to help fix it.

Mark Spector and Eric Engels of Sportsnet have reported that Ken Holland has his eye on a specific defender from the Montreal Canadiens. That being Joel Edmundson; however, he comes with a rather massive asking price, which is honestly absurd.

As per Spector:

''Here's a deep dive on a player the Oilers have genuine interest in. He may cost EDM Xavier Bourgault, but the window is the window.''

Spector reported that it could cost Edmonton not only a top prospect in Bourgault but also a first-round pick. If that's the price, the Oilers might as well go all-in for Jakob Chyrchrun instead.

Edmundson would be a perfect fit on the Oilers' blue line with the big and tough shutdown abilities he brings to the table. But if that's the asking price, Holland better stay away because even his defensive numbers aren't good (see below):
