One spot Oilers fans' and Insiders keep mentioning is a trade for a defenseman. The Oilers GM has been working the phones with numerous rumors of the Oilers trying to acquire Arizona Coyotes defenceman Jakob Chychrun. Unfortunately for fans that trade may never come to futrition due to the Coyotes insane asking price for Chychrun.
However, as we know Oilers Gm Ken Holland is always thinking and appears to have a plan B. According to Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, The Oilers are trying to acquire Columbus Blue Jackets Defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov. The 27 year-old is the 6th most valuable player in the NHL Network's top 10 Trade bait list.
Gavrikov would be a nice pick-up, the 27 year-old is a very solid and reliable two-way defenceman and is much more affordable than Chychrun, Gavrikov is also a pending UFA at the end of this season.
