The NHL has been trying their hardest with their "Hockey Is For Everyone" as they try to sell the NHL to new players and fans. Well from Friday's attendance at the 2023 NHL All-Star skills competition, the NHL clearly has some work to do.
Fans would share on social media how poor the attendance was and from this picture, to say Friday was a failure would be an understatement. A photo was shared from the lower bowl and fans were saying it was only 25% capacity. To be fair a lot of hockey fans could really care less about the All-Star weekend with many calling it a gimmick.
Former NHL'er Marc Methot also seems to not be a fan of the Skills Competition with his comments on social media saying:
Must read on Oilers Daily
I'll probably get in trouble saying this, but this whole thing is cringe. It isn't cool to actually try in the skills competition anymore, apparently. Are people genuinely enjoying this? And don't even get me started on that corny Marner breakaway.
