RanSport's Luca Ostermeier commended Draisaitl's evident commitment to his national side, as reflected in his thoughtful consideration of joining the tournament despite the intense NHL season still heavy in his bones and the sting of a disheartening playoff conclusion. Up until Tuesday evening, the German forward had been contemplating lending his talents to his compatriots battling it out in Tampere.
Earlier in the week, during a season-end press conference, Draisaitl had hinted at potential discussions about a trip across the Atlantic. However, it now appears that such a plan has been shelved.
Although this might be disappointing for some, it's not a total shock given Germany's ongoing struggles in the tournament, and Draisaitl taking time off to give his body time to heal. Despite showing fighting spirit, the team has so far failed to register a win, falling narrowly to Sweden 1-0, losing 4-3 to Finland, and suffering a 3-2 defeat at the hands of USA.
With four tournament games still on their docket against Denmark, Austria, Hungary, and France, Germany will need to rally without Draisaitl's presence on the ice.
