Absurd trade rumour between the Oilers and the Habs

Over the 30 years, I've watched hockey, one part of the season that always makes me shake my head and laugh at the same time is the NHL trade deadline. Many pundits and armchair general managers produce some of the craziest trades you would ever see and this one isn't any different.

Former NHL scout Jason Bukala suggested that the Oilers will need to include a first-round draft pick to move Jesse Puljujarvi. The team in question would be the Montreal Canadiens and the Oilers would receive defensemen Joel Edmundson plus another few draft picks to round out the trade.

Edmundson has a cap hit of $3.5 million and will be on contract for one extra year. I feel that a first-round draft pick with the Swedish forward would be too much to pay for this defenseman, especially with the fact that Puljujarvi is going to be a restricted free agent next year and looking for a new deal. He is also having a poor season for production, which does not bode well for a new contract.

The 24-year-old forward has 10 points on the season and is a – 13 In 45 games.

Edmonton could find another suitor or make the deal less expensive to pick up Edmundson.
