The hockey world was shaken by another tragedy this morning, as news broke that 17 year old Connor Kasin has passed away after collapsing at a charity game for his school on Long Island in New York.
The Massapequa Schools' Superintendent William Brennan issued a letter to the community, explaining Kasin's passing as a sudden medical event, with no more specific information.
Tragically, Connor Kasin and other youth in the community were gathered to play a charity game in memory of a High School classmate, Sabrina Navaretta, who was killed in a car crash last year.
»At about 9 p.m. on Saturday, medics and officers arrived at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage, where people were performing CPR on Kasin, according to police. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.» - NewsDay
The school also offered counselling at the High School, and made a statement about Kasin's impact on the community.
»Connor was a cherished member of our school community, known for his kindness, positivity, enthusiasm, and big smile. He had a way of bringing light and joy to those around him, and his absence will be felt deeply by all of us."
A player profile of Connor Kasin on NCSA College Recruiting site listed him as a 6'2, 195 pound left defenceman for the Long Island Sharks. A personal statement from Kasin showed that he had a strong head on his shoulders, aiming to go to college to play hockey and continue his education.
"I am an active, social, and encouraging teammate both on and off of the ice ... My goals are to get into a great college that provides me with both excellent coaching and education." - Connor Kasin
