Scary scene as Rangers veteran Blake Wheeler needs carried off the ice after leg injury
Moments ago, New York Rangers forward Black Wheeler left the ice after sustaining a scary looking leg injury. In an innocent looking okay along the boards, Wheeler fell back and got his leg caught underneath him in a horrible position. Wheeler was unable to put any weight on his leg at all afterwards.
It was uncomfortable watching the veteran try to get up and immediately fall back down in pain. Wheeler was carried off the ice by his teammates and put into a stretcher as soon as he got to the tunnel.
Now 37 years old, this could be the end of the line for Wheeler is he is unable to recover and return in time for the playoffs. This offseason, Wheeler signed with the Rangers after years of captaining the Winnipeg Jets, and was expected to play in a bottom-six role. He's excelled with 9 goals and 21 points in 53 games, but it's still possible that could be his last game in the NHL.
