Rangers forward ejected for brutal hit to the head after just ten seconds

In just the first period of tonight's rivalry matchup game between the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils, the physical play dialled up. Rangers forward Matt Rempe, an up and coming tough guy in the league, was ejected after ten seconds of ice time for a brutal hit to the head of Devils forward Nathan Bastian.
The 6'8, 240 pound rookie forward came in with speed and lined up Bastian for a hard check along the boards. Rempe raised his elbow and made direct contact crunching Bastian's head into the boards. Bastian was visibly stunned by the play, nearly falling down on his side in a really uncomfortable scene. The referees assessed Rempe a major penalty and an ejection on the play.
It's likely that NHL Player Safety will take a look at this hit too. Rempe has just two NHL games played, and he's been a dominating physical force in both of them. Player Safety might need to dial him down just two games into his career, to not allow him to think he can get away with these awful hits.
