While their focus is on the 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs and making a deep post-season run, the Abbotsford Canucks have made a signing that'll help them for next season.

In a post on social media, the Abbotsford Canucks announced that they've agreed to terms on a one-year AHL contract with free agent defenceman Joe Arntsen. Arntsen's contract won't begin until next season, but he will be joining Abbotsford on an amateur try-out contract for the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign.

"Abbotsford Canucks General Manager, Ryan Johnson, announced today that the club has signed major junior free agent defenceman Joe Arntsen to a one-year AHL contract through the 2024-25 season. Arntsen joins Abbotsford from the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League." The Abbotsford Canucks said in a post on their website."

Arntsen, 20, has spent the last five seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Lethbridge Hurricanes. In 66 games during the 2023-24 season, the Dinsmore, Saskatchewan native recorded 24 points (six goals, 18 assists), 75 penalty minutes and was a minus-18. He went on to add two assists in four playoff games.

The Abbotsford Canucks will return to action next weekend with their final two games of the regular season, both at home, against the Calgary Wranglers.
