After the Oilers chose not to match the offer sheets from Blues, Edmonton acquired Paul Fischer and a 3rd round draft pick in exchange for future considerations from St. Louis.
It was a throwaway trade around the offer sheets, but it looks like the Oilers at least got something decent back.
Oilers prospect Paul Fischer ranks within top 10 Edmonton prospects
Analysts at
OilersNation are counting down the top prospects within the organization, and Paul Fischer has come in at 9th place. Looking at Fischer's scouting report from Elite Prospects, the 20 year old defenceman plays a strong two-way game.
Fischer's a steady defensive presence, bringing a tight gap, proactive threat elimination, and physicality. He leverages his frame to ride guys out while defending the rush. He doesn't fall for slips or dangles, and rubs guys out before making a simple but effective exit pass.

Listed at 6'0 and 200 pounds, Fischer isn't the biggest physical force on the ice, but he is described as a smooth skater which will help him transition to the NHL.
Fischer's now played 2 seasons at Notre Dame in NCAA's Big 10, and still has 2 more years of eligibility in the league. There's no rush for the Oilers to sign him, as he's currently getting top 4 minutes and is in a position environment for his development.
At last year's World Juniors, Fischer also made a good impression and captured a gold medal.
The Oilers made a massive mistake letting go of both Broberg and Holloway to offer sheets, but hopefully they can lessen the sting by hitting with the other assets they got in return. For now, there's solid hope for Fischer and the draft picks the Oilers acquired.
