The Oilers are always out looking for prospects and players who could help them in the future and as the NHL trade deadline is long gone and the collegiate seasons are coming to an end, the Oilers have turned their attention to Brock university where they are preparing to send the contract to goaltender prospect Connor Ungar.
The 22-year-old goalie has had a great season with Brock university while posting a record of 21-7-0 which has positioned himself as first in the Ontario university athletics Western Division.
His numbers have been excellent over the past couple of years as he was named you sports rookie of the year in 2023-2024 and having a .932 save percentage for the regular season and a .928 save percentage in the playoffs for the Badgers.
As the Oilers continued to stockpile goaltenders as they have five under contract now, Seems the team is willing to look over their prospects and see which goaltender will stand out after Stuart Skinner.
If the Oilers decide to buy out Jack Campbell and lose Calvin Pickard to unrestricted free agency this summer, this will leave their goaltending position devoid of depth and adding a player like Ungar is an important step.
The Oilers next game will be an all-Canadian match up as they are home to host the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday March 19th. Game time will be 9:00 PM eastern.
