Oilers linked to signing overseas player, former 20 goal scorer in NHL
The Edmonton Oilers already made impressive additions to their forwards yesterday, and may not be done yet. According to insiders, the Oilers are interested in signing former NHLer Ondrej Kase.
Oilers insider Bob Stauffer has hinted that the team isn't done making additions at forward. The Oilers have already added
Jeff Skinner and Victor Arvidsson, as well as retaining key UFAs like
Adam Henrique,
Corey Perry, Mattias Janmark, and
Connor Brown. If they target anyone else, it would likely be a depth target like Ondrej Kase.
Still only 28 years old, Kase is garnering interest for an NHL comeback after playing 48 games in the Czech Pro League last year. According to reports, he's feeling t more confident than ever about his health and ability to play a full year.
Drafted in the 7th round by the Anaheim Ducks in 2014, Kase went on to play 258 NHL games with four different teams, and when he could remain healthy, was a productive scorer. Concussions have significantly impacted Kase's career, but he scored 14 goals and 27 points in only 50 games with the Leafs in 2022, proving he can still play. In his sophomore season with the Anaheim Ducks in 2018, he scored an impressive 20 goals in 66 games.
The Oilers have done a fantastic job adding wingers this year, with tons of options to move around in the lineup. Team chemistry will be something they'll have a while to work on and this team somehow just got so much better than last year. It'll be crazy to see this team play this year, and unlock how truly good they can be with a proper roster construction.
