Lowtide feels that Bowman has performed relatively well as general manager considering the situation the Oilers are in currently.
Unable to make major changes due to salary cap issues, low tide explains how Bowman has worked around the edges and has used some creative ideas including signing John Klingberg and Jasper Kapanen to help bolster the lineup without costing draft picks and prospects.
Using this strategy, has helped the Oilers maintain their draft capital and their prospects as the March trade deadline approaches in less than one month and will give the Oilers more flexibility to look at more free agents especially if teams are dropping out of the playoff race.
Even though Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner has played very well this year, it's safe to say that Stan Bowman will look in the NHL to see if there are any supplementary goaltenders that could be available.
They may need help either to partner with Skinner or replace Skinner have the Oilers will need to put their best foot forward if they would like to win the Stanley Cup this season.
One goalie in particular who has been linked to the Oilers over the past couple of months is John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks. Many feel that Gibson would benefit with a change of scenery and a team that would have a better defence in front of him which would improve his performance.
A new tandem would likely be the best approach as this seems to be the common trend in the NHL these days and if the Oilers could find a partner that would help manage the games for Skinner, his numbers would continue to rebound upward and become the elite goalie he's been at times throughout the past few years.
It's going to be a fascinating month to see how the Oilers will fare and what they will do in order to improve their team before March 7th.
