The 2015 first-round pick (25th overall) Jack Roslovic remains a UFA as of today, something that has perplexed analysts across the NHL.
Though many are uncertain why such a talented, top-6 center has garnered no interest from NHL general manager's, Insider Pierre LeBrun's report from Thursday's edition of OverDrive might tell us why.
According to LeBrun, Roslovic and his camp weren't too flexible with where they were willing to sign, and the Edmonton Oilers learned that the hard way, believing there was an offer from the Edmonton Oilers at some point that Roslovic turned down.
Top UFA fires agent after rejecting Edmonton offer
Pierre Lebrun had this to say about the scenario:
"We believe that he actually had something on the table in the summer from the Edmonton Oilers, and it didn't interest him. And what has also happened in the interim is he has changed agents. So obviously July 1 did not go like he wanted, so he fired his agent, went to a new agent. And obviously, certainly at the start of the offseason, he had certain parameters of where he wanted to go. I mean, I can't imagine turning down a chance to go play with McDavid or Draisaitl. So, yeah, he's still a UFA; I'm sure he'll catch on here at some point; he'll end up somewhere for sure."
Indeed, it is hard to imagine an NHL player turning down the chance to play with such elite talent as McDavid and Draisaitl, with a team in it's prime Cup-window, and a two-time Stanley Cup finalist.
Decision to not sign with Edmonton was not about talent, but term
According to LeBrun, the contract details were unknown, but reported that Roslovic was looking for more than one-year on his deal, something the Oilers' offer likely did not include.
Still, it prompted the Columbus, Ohio native to change his agents, going from Claude Lemieux to Justin Duberman.
Though hew remains a UFA, Roslovic is still training in the hope that his status changes, according to this report:
Former #CBJ Jack Roslovic, who had 22 goals for #RaiseUp last season, remains the NHL's top unsigned free agent. He's skating every other day at a suburban rink in Columbus, his hometown.
He politely declined an interview request from The Athletic this morning.
Jack Roslovic is a former 20-goal scorer; it is likely just a matter of time before a team calls on him with an offer.
