The Edmonton Oilers early season struggles have continued with a loss to the Rangers, and multiple figures in the locker room were unified in the reason why.
Leon Draisaitl and Coach Knoblauch don't shy away from naming reason why Oilers lost to Rangers
Leon Draisaitl directly blamed the turnovers as the reason for their loss last night, and connected back to previous losses early this season.
Turnovers kind of turned the game a little bit. We have to clean that up. Self-inflicted mistakes, that's all it is. It's nothing magical that the other teams are doing. We're just beating ourselves right now. It's something we have to clean up.
Like I said three times now, turnovers turned the game.
With Coach Knoblauch, his answers were more pointed towards Evan Bouchard. He didn't deny any thought of potentially benching Bouchard in future games as a wake up call to this poor play.
With Evan, sometimes your greatest strength is also your greatest weakness. You have a great talent of making passes and feeling confident that you can do that. But when it's not working, it's costing chances against. We have to hold all our players accountable.
- Coach Knoblauch
Bouchard desperately needs to clean up his game in the coming days. The Oilers are once again finding themselves slipping into a mediocre record, and making this season more difficult than it needs to be.
