During a recent media availability, former-Oiler Evander Kane took the opportunity to voice his displeasure with the media.
Kane takes shot at media
“I think there’s a lot of names that are out there,” Kane said. “All of a sudden, just because a member of the Vancouver media to tweet it out, we got a big scrum today. But yeah, it’s part of the process. It’s part of the way business is done at the NHL level.”
Yet, Kane has been around long enough to understand how things work in the industry, though he doesn't have to like it. What is clear from his comments, however, is his frustration.
“I don’t know if there’s a person in this room that doesn’t have a hunger to play playoff hockey," Kane said at a recent media availability. "When you train all summer and come to training camp, that’s what you’re training to do. So, obviously that’s a desire for anybody, and that’s no different with me.”
Clearly, Evander wants to make a difference. Vancouver just needs to find a team where be can make it.
Except, his value on the trade-market isn't exactly bustling with suitors. Over 52 games, he's recorded 9G and 24 points and is a minus-18. At a cap hit of $5.125M, the pending-UFA may not be a popular target.
Yet, Elliotte Friedman believes Vancouver can get a 3rd-round pick for him, if salary is retained, which will be central to any deal.
According to PuckPedia, Vancouver has just over $2M of team cap space available, which may be problematic in terms of salary retention, though not impossible.
In addition, NHL Insider Kevin Weekes reported the Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars have shown interest in Kane, as recently as this past weekend.
