Connor McDavid finally speaks to media and reveals key information on contract with Oilers

It was reported that Connor would in fact address the media today, and he has. In doing so, he has given his assurance that he wishes to win in Edmonton, where he began his career.

Of course, he didn't speak about the contract details, like length of term and value, or when exactly he would sign, but the fact that he wants to win with his current team speaks volumes.

Having reached the Stanley Cup Playoff Final in two-straight years plays a huge factor, as Connor believes Edmonton will give him the best chance of winning.

Whether he signs a three year bridge extension, or a full 8 years remains to be seen. That is not as yet certain.

Nor is the amount for which he will sign, which could be anywhere from $17M to $20M.

As you can see, there are still many questions that need answering, especially for Edmonton's front-office, who will no doubt be preparing for all the various contingencies.

Whether Connor McDavid's pending contract extension will continue to be a distraction is not clear. In my opinion it likely will, with the uncertainties still looming.

For the fanbase, to know that Connor wants to win in Edmonton should be reassuring. The passion and energy they bring to each game goes a long way toward the team's success. To reward them with a Stanley Cup, well, that would be the ultimate thank you.
