Former Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft finding himself in trouble
When the Oilers bottomed out early this season with a 3-9-2 record, the team made an incredibly tough decision to let go of their head coach, Jay Woodcroft. Despite being one of the most successful coaches in franchise history, with a record of 79-41-13, the team needed to make the move to shake up the struggling team.
As the Ottawa Senators fired their head coach just yesterday, they became the fourth NHL team to fire their coach this year. Still however, the incredibly successful Jay Woodcroft isn't even rumoured to be in consideration for any available coaching jobs.
It's quite strange to see that no other team would be interested in Woodcroft, who clearly has experience coaching elite talent into the playoffs. As he was brought up and molded within the Oilers' organization, maybe it'll take time for other teams to realize his coaching ability.
It's really quite unfortunate for Woodcroft, who was an incredible coach in his time in Edmonton, and was arguably only fired due to goaltending problems costing the team wins. Hopefully in the near future, another team will consider Woodcroft, and Oilers fans can see him have success elsewhere in the NHL.
