As the season rolls along and the NHL trade deadline on the horizon, general manager Ken Holland will be making some important decisions over the coming weeks on where he plans to bolster his lineup and prepare for the playoffs.
Most pundits and fans feel that the Oilers should acquire a goaltender which there is plenty of evidence to say so. However, there is one defenseman on the market who would help the Oilers greatly and shore up the right side.
Flyers defenseman
Sean Walker has had a great season and has given himself a
high value on the trade market.
Must read on Oilers Daily
He has many intangibles that could help the Oilers for their playoff run including being at right-handed defensemen, he also is an excellent penalty killer, can play a shutdown role along with putting the puck in the net.
One of his best assets is his contract. The 29-year-old is on his final year of his deal worth $2.65 million and would make it easier for the Flyers and the Oilers to craft the deal.
Over the past 42 games, he has scored four goals with 10 assists for 14 points and is a + 4. Earlier on he was on a tear but with several defencemen coming back from injury he has been pushed down the depth chart.
He also has become expendable after the Flyers moved
Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks
Jamie Drysdale. The Flyers now have 8 defensemen on their roster.
Walker Is certainly an under the radar pick up that Holland is expected to look at. He would be a low-cost rental that may require a second-round pick or a potential prospect to bring him into the fold. With the Flyers looking to continue their rebuild, Walker would be a great choice for the Oilers.
