All day long, a whirlwind of trade rumours has followed Oilers' defenceman Phillip Broberg. Earlier today it was reported that the Oilers were looking to move the former first round pick, but now, GM Ken Holland has an entirely different story for the media.
However, Rishaug also was able to get a comment from Broberg's agent, Darren Ferris. According to him, this exact statement is the cause of Broberg's frustration with the Oilers, and the reason why he's looking for a trade.
Clearly, Broberg is looking to move on from the Oilers to get more playing time from another team. At the moment, the Oilers don't trust Broberg to be a regular, and he's bounced between the NHL and AHL this season. In ten games so far with the Oilers, he's recorded zero points, and posted a rating of -2.
Ferris' statement indicated that Broberg did clearly make a trade request, and has no intention of rescinding it. Now, we'll just have to see if the Oilers and Ken Holland accommodate him, or if they'll keep limiting him to a depth piece.
