Moments ago, NHL insider David Pagnotta dropped a bombshell report that Corey Perry will be signing with the Edmonton Oilers, and the deal could be announced as soon as today.
Ever since Perry became available as a free agent, fans and media have naturally linked the veteran forward to the Edmonton Oilers. Perry can bring a veteran presence, pest like play, and depth scoring. With 4 goals and 9 points in Chicago, Perry has proven to still be a useful player this year. At 38 years old and with over 1200 games played, Perry was looking to join a contending team - with Edmonton on a 13 game winning streak, the Oilers look like the best bet to Perry.
It may have been so lightly controversial to bring in Perry so shortly after the incident occurred in Chicago, but Perry has since been cleared by the commissioner Gary Bettman, and whatever incident did take place doesn't seem to be that severe. Still, Evander Kane joined the Oilers in similar circumstances, and has gone on to incredible success with the Oilers - something that likely influenced Perry's decision.
