All signs point to Edmonton Oilers making blockbuster trade at deadline
Heading into this year's trade deadline, the Edmonton Oilers are thought to have a fluid approach. Now however, a few signs are pointing towards the Oilers making a massive splash at the deadline.
According to a tweet shared from OilerAlert on Twitter using data for CapFriendly, the Oilers would have significant salary cap space to use at the deadline. If they only recall Dylan Holloway, which is the most likely scenario, the team would have $2.4M in space at the deadline. Using retention, they could acquire up to $9.6M worth of salary.
Considering the Vancouver Canucks just went out and made the blockbuster trade to acquire Elias Lindholm, the Oilers may look to match their move with a splash of their own to compete. As it stands, their current cap situation would allow them to acquire Jake Guentzel - who was previously linked to the Canucks. Now that the Canucks are likely out, that leaves the Oilers as the last prime suitor for Guentzel.
