The Edmonton Oilers are entering the off-season with plans to re-tool after their second-round playoff exit. Despite improving from the previous season, the team faced a roadblock in the playoffs. In light of this, reporter Mark Spector has shared his views on the team's weaknesses and how to address them.

General Manager Ken Holland will have to revisit his strategy to re-tool the team, as they fell short of their goals this season.

To make further progress in the playoffs, the team must address Kailer Yamamoto's salary and inconsistent performance despite playing with top talent. Although he brings competitiveness and courage to the game, his time off the ice due to injury is noteworthy.

Spector predicts there will be no QO for him, and he may as well be a UFA. Holland should consider moving his salary or another player to promote NHL-ready Dylan Holloway, who could start on the bottom six.

Improving their defense is crucial, and affordable and sensible options are available. They need someone who can prevent zone entries and assist in the breakout, such as Carson Soucy or Chris Tanev. However, they must find a way to move Cody Ceci's contract. Holland will also need to decide which veteran winger to part ways with, and Devin Shore seems like a good candidate, as Jay Woodcroft rarely ices the Center. Mattias Janmark is another option to consider. To win a cup, Holland must make wise decisions regarding defense, as the current six players may not be enough.
