As a result of Conor Timmins' long-term injury, the Toronto Maple Leafs will lose an important player on defense. It was exciting to see him ride the wave of training camp and show up where he needed to be on ice.

During the game against the Montreal Canadiens Friday night, Sheldon Keefe reported that the young defenseman suffered a lower-body injury.

Conor Timmins undergoing an MRI today after suffering lower-body injury on a hit late in game last night. Keefe: "Not just the camp he has had, he has worked incredibly hard ... to have a setback is tough news for him and for us." #Leafs

Upon joining the Maple Leafs organization, Timmins was slated to play as the team's 6th or 7th defenseman. As a depth option, he showed flashes of great play throughout last season and has continued to do so in pre-season.

Keefe and the Leafs will now miss Timmins, who scored six points in two preseason games.

Just brutal news for Conor Timmins. He's missed a lot of time with a concussion and a knee injury, and now another setback. Hope he can make another comeback

A specific hit has not been identified as the one that injured the defenseman, but he has an injury history dating back to 2017. As Timmins has suffered concussions and knee injuries before, we hope his recovery won't be painful.

Here's hoping his recovery is swift and he gets back to competing on the ice as soon as possible.

"Unbelievable... It's fun to see one of the guys feeling it like that."

Yes, Conor is leading the NHL preseason scoring race.

That would be Timmins, of course. Six points in two nights for the Maple Leafs defenceman on the bubble: https://bit.ly/3rudw5M
