Video catches NHL head coach pretending to draw on whiteboard

The Pittsburgh Penguins are clearly having a tough season. While desperately trying to make the playoffs in the last years of their star players' careers, the team has significantly underperformed. At this point, the Penguins are third last in the eastern conference, and the playoffs seem out of the picture. Now, clearly even the coaches are out of ideas.

In a hilarious video captured during Wednesday's game visiting the Montreal Canadiens, Penguins assistant coach Todd Reirden was shown drawing up a set play as the game entered overtime - only it seemed like Reirden was totally lost.

Perhaps Reirden is just motioning to visualize his thoughts, or if he really was just totally out of ideas for the Penguins OT plan, it's a cool perspective to the minutia of NHL coaching.

Although in the end, it may have been beneficial for Reirden to draw up a plan. The game ended up going past overtime to the shootout, where the Penguins stopped their slide down the standings, winning 4-3. That critical win will take the Penguins coaching staff off the hot seat, at least for now.
