Connor Bedard undergoes significant surgery

Moments ago, NHL insider Frank Seravalli reported that the Blackhawks rookie phenom Connor Bedard has underwent a surgery to repair his broken jaw.

This puts his recovery time at a minimum of 6-8 weeks now that a surgery was required. Bedard was hurt off the hit from Devils' defenceman Brendan Smith last week.

It's a tough break for just about everyone in hockey. The Blackhawks are now middd in injury and are much worse than a team that was already projected to finish last. Bedard is missing valuable development time and could jeopardize his Calder trophy campaign. Hockey fans everywhere too, who have been enamoured with the kids talent, won't be able to watch for the next long while.

Hopefully, when Bedard recovers from this, he comes back at an even more torrid pace to end the season. Through 39 games this year, Bedard has 15 goals and 33 points, leading all rookies, and the Blackhawks, in scoring.
