It's been several weeks since the news broke from the Chicago Blackhawks organization that Corey Perry was terminated from his contract after the team discovered there was an altercation during a company event which led to Perry leaving the team. Now, Perry's back in the news today with the announcement that he's free to join another NHL team.

Many teams are looking to add depth to their forward lines as the season approaches the midway point. The Oilers certainly will entertain this idea as they too are looking for help especially in the bottom 6. When Perry was released by the Blackhawks, and again today, several insiders have linked the Oilers to signing the veteran forward.

Oilers reporter Jim Matheson mentioned that the Oilers will consider signing Perry as he has intangibles that would benefit the Oilers and help them with a long cup run.

Earlier today, Matheson doubled down on his opinion the Oilers were looking into Corey Perry.

Insider Bob Stauffer weighed in as well, confirming with certainty that the Oilers are interested in Perry.

Now that the team has righted the ship, dominated teams and looking like the Oilers we all have expected, would love to add Perry.

His sandpaper style of play and constantly agitating the opposition would give the Oilers a new edge that will be vital down the stretch. He has an openly aggressive and he could still score as his hands have never lost the skill set.

Another aspect of his game is the vast Stanley Cup experience playing with Dallas, Montreal and Tampa along with winning the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks. As the games get tougher and the ice begins to shrink, having Perry on the Oilers bench would give the younger players the added leadership they need while showing them how to overcome.

Even though Perry is entering the twilight of his career, he still has plenty to offer, and it remains to be seen on what kind of contract he would get as he will be a mid season pick up.

The Oilers would need to do a move or two to make room for Perry. However, depending on what his demands are I feel that general manager Ken Holland will certainly be on the phone with his agent looking to potentially making a deal.
