The Edmonton Oilers are deep in another playoff run while the Maple Leafs were eliminated in disappointing fashion once again, which has led fans to draw an absurd comparison between Hyman and Toronto.
Funny enough, Hyman was in the midst of a slower offensive stretch in the playoffs lately - but then broke through with 2 goals in Game 3, and is leading the playoffs in hits.
Fans draw insane comparison between Zach Hyman and entire Maple Leafs core
Hyman isn't even close to being the Oilers' main scorer, and yet, he's scored more playoff goals than the entire top 3 Maple Leafs forwards combined since 2022.
2022 was Hyman's first playoff run as an Oiler, and he was an instant playoff success. He scored 11 goals in 16 playoff games that year, after only scoring 5 goals in 5 playoff rounds in Toronto.
Hyman was a great player in Toronto - it's where he became famous for his constant dogged worth ethic - but he took his game to the next level in Edmonton, and it has to be influenced by the Oilers culture.
Where in the playoffs every year the Leafs stars wilt with pressure, Oilers stars always elevate their game for the biggest moments. It's an infectious winning attitude in the locker room, and Hyman fit right in. He's got half the skill of
Auston Matthews, but dwarfs his effort level - and it shows in the results.
Hyman is the exact type of player you win a Stanley Cup with. Toronto made a grave mistake letting him walk in free agency, and the Oilers are incredibly lucky to have signed a player who continually works as hard as he does.
