Tristan Jarry's injury and return timeline confirmed by Oilers coach
Edmonton Oilers coach Knoblauch has confirmed that goalie Tristan Jarry will miss at least few weeks with his injury.
Jarry left his 3rd start with the Oilers after pushing across the crease to make a save, and taking some contact from an oncoming Bruins forward. It didn't look good, as he got up tenderly and immediately went down the hall.
Tristan Jarry confirmed to miss «a few weeks» by Oilers coach Knoblauch
It's tough to see Jarry sidelined after just 3 starts with the Edmonton Oilers. This is a disruption in Jarry settling into his new environment, and also puts the Oilers right back into an even more shaky goalie situation.
The Oilers are still even being vague about the injury, which most suspect is a groin strain. Return timelines would can vary, and he'll likely be evaluated by the week - or could potentially miss up to a month or more.
Connor Ingram will get the start tonight against the Pacific Division rival Vegas Golden Knights. This is exactly the type of game you'd want Jarry starting, but instead, it's a backup goalie the Oilers took a flyer on.
Now 28 years old, Ingram is looking to work his way back from some personal issues last season that took him off the ice for an extended period of time, and likely affected his performance. However, he was a quality starter as recently as 2022-23, and the Oilers believe there's a reclamation project here.
Ingram has put up brutal numbers in the AHL so far this season, but all of that goes out the window tonight. If he can get on a roll and prove himself with the Oilers, he has a chance to supplant Pickard and stay with the team.
For now however, the Oilers are running a goalie tandem that doesn't inspire too much confidence. One of Pickard or Ingram has to emerge as a solid backup option.
Hopefully tonight against the Golden Knights, Ingram can step up and begin to find his game at the NHL level again.
