According to multiple reports surfacing online, defenceman Tony DeAngelo will be leaving the NHL and signing with a KHL team for next season.

DeAngelo is 28 years old, and was drafted in the first round by the Tampa Bag Lightning back in 2014. He's since played for four teams across his 371 game career, and has been bought out of his contract two separate times. Last season he signed a one year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes for $1.6M, played 31 games, and scored 3 goals and 11 points. Through his career he's scored over 50 points in a season, but has never been solid defensively.

The defenceman has been at the center of controversy throughout his NHL career for a variety of reasons, earning the ire of many hockey fans. He's been suspended for using a slur in junior hockey and got into an off-ice fight with a teammate while with the New York Rangers - and he was quickly removed from the team. There's more reasons that fans aren't big on DeAngelo, but those two incidents alone are enough for a team to have concern about him fitting into a locker room.

DeAngelo clearly had the talent to make it as an NHL player, but his off-ice actions continually got into his own way. If he's heading out to Siberia to play out his career, frankly, it would be fitting to join a number of other NHL outcasts.
