According to a recent article from the Hockey Writers, the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, and Boston Bruins could consider Barrie for a spot. Each team could use a veteran puck moving defenceman and an additional powerplay threat, but would still likely use Barrie as a 7th defenceman.
Daily Faceoff predicted that Barrie would eventually be able to secure a one year contract instead of a professional tryout, and if that's the case, it'll still likely be only one year for league minimum salary.
Since being traded from the Edmonton Oilers to the Nashville Predators, Barrie's career has quickly taken a dive. He only played 41 games last season after injuries and being a healthy scratch. Barrie only scored one goal and 15 points, but struggled defensively leading to a harsh -10 rating with minimal opportunity. With his obvious defensive shortcomings, the Predators scratched Barrie in all but one playoff game.
Tyson Barrie lived up to expectations in his time with the Edmonton Oilers, scoring over 40 points in three straight seasons and being a great piece on the powerplay. He was traded to Nashville to improve the team defensively with Mattias Ekholm, which has turned out to be a great deal for the Oilers. At the same time, Evan Bouchard emerged as an elite offensive defenceman, and the new top defence pair was established.
Wherever he goes, fans will still be wishing the best for Barrie. He was a beloved player in the locker room and is still close with many current players. His NHL career shouldn't be over quite yet at 33 years old, and hopefully he can carve out a new role for himself in the coming year.
