Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl is practically famous at this point for dominating while playing through injury, and it appears he may be doing so again this playoffs.
Some concerns were raised earlier that Draisaitl may be playing through injury based on his deployment. There were more signs in Game 1, although he still scored 2 points.
Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl may still be playing through injury
Draisaitl missed time with two separate injuries in the last month of the regular season, and never made his return until Game 1. His last injury was speculated to be a groin issue after a hit from Sharks forward
Barclay Goodrow.
Now in Game 1, sometimes it looks like he's still playing hurt. At times Draisaitl looks to be labouring to skate, and even made some uncharacteristic turnovers. Fans believe that's why Draisaitl may be with McDavid.
Even playing through an injury, Draisaitl's skill playing off McDavid can produce to win games for the Oilers.
If he is playing through an injury, Draisaitl is still their second best player. He's scored 4 goals and 12 points through 7 games this playoffs after giving the Oilers an MVP level season this year.
Of course, Oilers fans have seen Draisaitl play through injury in the playoffs and dominate before, most notably against the Calgary Flames. There's no doubt Draisaitl will remain in the lineup despite injury.
Hopefully Draisaitl can keep up his level of play even while battling an injury. It'll only add to the legend of the Oilers who seem to be willing their way to each playoff victory.
