The Edmonton Oilers completed an impressive series win over the Vegas Golden Knights in 5 games, and now will get a much needed extended rest before the third round.
Connor McDavid may be one of the players who could benefit the most from a few days rest, as he suffered a major injury scare last night.
Oilers fans concerned about significant injury scare to Connor McDavid
In a gritty tight-checking game, Connor McDavid made a great effort on a backcheck to lift the stick of a Vegas attacker. McDavid successfully prevented a Grade A chance, but then wiped out and fell into the boards hard.
It was the exact play that needs to be made in an eliminating playoff game, but McDavid definitely paid a price crashing into the boards at such a speed.
Oilers fans were holding their breath as McDavid got up slowly from the collision and made his way to the bench for a long conversation with the head athletic trainer.
Fortunately McDavid was able to finish the game, but he did appear to play a lot more timid after the injury scare. Some Oilers fans are concerned he did sustain an injury, and was playing through the pain.
Every player takes bumps and bruises on the road to the Stanley Cup, and by the 4th round, there's almost no players left fully healthy. That's why a series win in 5 games is crucial, allowing the team som extra time between series to rest and recover.
Hopefully McDavid just took a stinger on the play, and will be as close to healthy as possible to begin the third round.
