The reason behind the Oilers slow start in the playoffs which has them down 0-2 to the LA Kings is hotly debated, but chances against are standing out for the team.
Oilers analyst highlights chances against as the biggest reason behind slow start in playoffs
According to new reports from Oilers analysts Jason Gregor and Kevin Woodley, the Oilers gave up more high danger scoring chances against in Game 1 than any other game in last year's playoffs.
The Oilers have been serving up turnovers on a tee for high danger scoring chances against from some lacklustre defensive play and coverage. That surely needs to be cleaned up to given them a chance.
Although the Oilers are giving up more high-danger chances against, Skinner needs to make a save sometimes too. Not every clean shot against can go in.
In addition, the Oilers have given up more goals against on the penalty kill in the first two games than all last year's playoff run.
The Oilers penalty kill needs to be better, but they've lost more than a few quality players that contributed to those units last year. Still, they'll need to clean up their coverage and get more saves on the penalty kill too.
Cleaning up the defensive play is a priority, and getting some more saves would make it much easier for Edmonton. Tonight's game is close a must-win for the Oilers to get themselves back in the series.
