The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly looking to get younger and shake up their forward group, but free agent Patrick Kane may be good enough to ignore his age in the mix.

Kane is set to become a free agent tomorrow, and is currently under contract with the Detroit Red Wings. After missing the playoffs the last two years, he could be ready for a change of scenery in some of his final seasons.

UPDATE: Patrick Kane has officially re-signed with the Detroit Red Wings.
Edmonton insider Jim Matheson linked the Oilers to pursuing a contract with Kane this season to play alongside Leon Draisaitl on the second line.
Patrick Kane is 36 years old, with 1302 career NHL games played and 1343 career points. A three-time Stanley Cup Champion with Stan Bowman's Chicago Blackhawks, Kane, Kane is a lock for the Hall of Fame when he retires - and may want to compete for one last Stanley Cup. Matheson believes a 1 year contract for $4M could be possible.
Despite his age, Kane still has game left. With a Red Wings team that struggles to produce offence, Kane potted 21 goals and 59 points in 72 games last season.
He's fully healthy, and can produce offence from even strength or at an elite rate on the powerplay. If the Oilers want to add another shooter and playmaker to their lineup, Kane is a high-end talent that could come at a lower level salary.
Kane's connection with Oilers GM Stan Bowman would be an inside track to joining the Edmonton Oilers. If they're looking to replace some of the offence left with the departures of Jeff Skinner, Viktor Arvidsson, and Corey Perry - Patrick Kane is a great option.
