Leafs ownership fires team president, Brendan Shanahan in hot seat
Earlier today, news broke that the new head of Leafs ownership Keith Pelley fired his first team president in Toronto, officially putting Brendan Shanahan in the hot seat.
Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment has announced today that they've fired Bill Manning, the President of the Toronto Argonauts CFL team. For a Leafs team that's struggling to achieve anything in the playoffs, this should be a major warning to President Brendan Shanahan.
Keith Pelley, whose first job in working directly for a sport franchise was President of the Argos, is now directly in charge of them for the time being.
Keith Pelley took over as the head of MLSE this year, and a move like that often precedes another major shakeup of management. The Leafs have already made the major change to fire Kyle Dubas, but Brendan Shanahan is arguably the real builder of the roster. Then, there's the real issue of the roster itself not being good enough to win in the playoffs.
If the Leafs continue to be the laughing stock of the NHL next season with another first round exit, the media won't be asking Brendan Shanahan if they'll trade a core player - he won't be employed if it happens again. Once again, everything will be on the line for the Leafs this season.
