Insider says surprising western team intends to sign multiple star free agents
The Chicago Blackhawks have already hit rock bottom of their rebuild which gave them Connor Bedard, and with a few more transactions, they could look a lot different.
According to Mark Lazerus of the Athletic, the Blackhawks are eyeing several star free agents next summer already, hoping to add immediate firepower to a roster loaded with high end prospects.
Mark Lazerus of the Athletic suggests the Chicago Blackhawks could shift their focus to next offseason and bringing in several big name UFAs.
The leading names the Blackhawks are targeting are Mitch Marner, Brock Boeser, John Tavares, Nikolaj Ehlers, Shea Theodore, and Aaron Ekblad. Signing a combination of one of those forwards and defenceman could instantly make the Blackhawks a fringe playoff team.
The Blackhawks have already begun surrounding Bedard with a decent top six, including Taylor Hall, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Teuvo Teravainen. They've added other quality veteran players, like Jason Dickinson, Pat Maroon, TJ Brodie, Alec Martinez, and Ilya Mikheyev. When more of their prospects come to development, the Blackhawks could soon be a formidable team in the NHL.
