Insider reports Oilers trade offer was shut down by rival Vancouver Canucks
The Edmonton Oilers showed interest in trading for Canucks goalie Arturs Silovs, but Vancouver was unwilling to deal with a rival team.
The Oilers desperately need to make a goalie addition sometime next season, and Silovs would've been a solid candidate. The Oilers and Canucks just made a deal for Evander Kane, too.
Canucks reluctant to trade Silovs to Edmonton Oilers
According to a new report from NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Oilers were interested in Silovs and may have made an offer - but it just wasn't as good as Pittsburgh's.
The Oilers were involved, I think there was another team in the mix, but they just couldn't get it done. The Oilers don't really have a ton to offer, and weren't entirely sure that Silovs is better than what they have right now.

Oilers insider Bob Stauffer had also confirmed the team's interest in Silovs, but added that the Canucks were unwilling to deal their promising young goalie to a rival team in Edmonton. If he became a star, they'd have to see him way too often.
With the Oilers scant on trade assets and salary cap space, they may have to look at picking up a free goalie with minimal salary on waivers, like Nico Daws and Mike DiPietro. Both are low-risk, high reward bets.
Unfortunately for now it looks like there will be no major goalie addition for the Oilers this offseason, continuing Edmonton's long running tradition of mid tier goalies. Hopefully some addition does come that can bring stability to the team, perhaps with a new 3rd goalie at least.
