Goalie Stuart Skinner makes bold personal declaration before Oilers' 2025-26 season
Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner will be entering the season battling to stay on as his team's starter, and also fighting for a Team Canada position.
Skinner's save percentage has dropped the last two seasons, cratering to just an .896 last year with significant playoff struggles. He's on the hot seat in Edmonton, but it's clearly not getting to his confidence.
Stuart Skinner reveals goals of making Team Canada for Olympics roster
As the Oilers returned for Captain's Skates this week, reporter Gene Principe caught up with Skinner. The Edmonton-born goalie has his sights set on making Team Canada for the 2026 Olympics, and winning the Stanley Cup.
I want to play for Team Canada and be at Olympics. I want to get back to the Stanley Cup final and finish the job.

Unfortunately, Team Canada has already held their pre-Olympics orientation camp, and Skinner was not among the 3 goalies invited.
Not only was Skinner not invited to Team Canada camp, his performance last season was no where near good enough to warrant an Olympic roster spot - and may not be good enough for the Oilers to win a Cup.
The Oilers allowed the least amount of high danger shots against in the NHL last year, and Skinner still struggled to keep pace.
Skinner was below NHL average in most categories last year, and other Canadian goalies will be higher up on the call-up list. Realistically, other goalies will have to get injured for him to have a chance.
Regardless, Skinner appears dedicated to making significant improvements for the upcoming season. He'll need to quickly prove that he can handle the starter's crease for a Cup-contending team, and that may help his long shot chances of joining Team Canada.
