Emily Cave shares view of memorial to Colby Cave with Oilers AHL team
Near the exit of the Condors locker room, a memorial is attached to the wall with a picture of Cave and one of his gloves - giving a glove tap to every player heading onto the ice.
Emily Cave shared pictures of herself holding the glove, surely an incredibly emotional moment. The memorial reads «Once a Condor, always a Condor.»
The Oilers picked up Colby Cave off waivers from the Boston Bruins in January of 2019. Cave went on to play 44 games with the Oilers between 2018 and 2020, making a great impact in the locker room on his teammates.
Cave was sent down to the AHL in March of 2020 as
Connor McDavid returned from injury, playing his final game with the Oilers on February, 21, 2020. On March 7th of 2020 he played his last professional hockey game with the Condors - and scored a goal. Emily got to visit the site of Colby's final goal, which had to be an incredible moment for her.
Just over a month later, Colby Cave passed away on April 11th after an emergency brain surgery. It was a shocking moment for the entire hockey world, and mostly of course for the Cave family.
The Edmonton Oilers players, fans, and organization will always support the Cave family after the terrible tragedy, and it was great to see Emily share another emotional moment with her late husband.
