According to Oilers' analyst Bob Stauffer, the team is speaking with two clubs in particular to work-out a possible trade for help.

Blues likely seller at trade-deadline

It is possible the Oilers could make a trade with the St. Louis Blues, with recent rumors linking the Oilers to goaltender Jordan Binnington.
St. Louis currently sits one point out of last place in the competitive Central Division, with a record of 6-9-5 and 17 points. Typically, a team knows what they have after 20 games, and whether they are buyers, or seller by December.
That is just weeks away. Yet, the Oilers, though they too have not played to potential, can still turn the season around, and goaltending is the primary focus for a recovery to the season.
Binnington has been a frequent trade target. While his recent regular season statistics have been average, his history as a Stanley Cup winner and a player who elevates his game in the playoffs is seen as a potential asset for a Cup-contending Oilers team.
Another Wild player that could help Edmonton right away is Brayden Schenn. The veteran has consistently produced at a high-level over his 17-year career, with no sign of slowing down.
Schenn has a strong playoff pedigree, having won the Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues in 2019. This experience and leadership in the locker room could be invaluable for the Oilers in a deep playoff run, but more importantly in this regular season.
His versatility and two-way game adds physicality and depth scoring to a contending team, and can impact an Oilers' club in several key areas.
Where Minnesota is concerned, they are not letting go of goalie Jesper Wallstedt after his elite start to the season. The team is also in contention in the standings and will likely be buyers at the deadline.
A trade with Minnesota seems unlikely, at least for the moment.
