Top Oilers insider addresses rumours of imminent goalie trade
TSN insider Ryan Rishaug is shutting down current rumours of the Edmonton Oilers making a goalie move imminently.
Some trade rumours began to circulate on social media yesterday, while fans and analysts speculated that Calvin Pickard may have played his last game in Edmonton. However, it still looks like the current 2 are sticking around for now.
TSN insider Ryan Rishaug denies reports of imminent goalie trade
A few notable Oilers fan accounts and podcasts were all over social media last night suggesting a goalie move could be imminent, which grabbed the attention of Rishaug. He reported that for the time being, no move is happening.
The Oilers also have a mini trade deadline with the upcoming NHL roster freeze kicking in on December 19th. It seems unlikely the Oilers would make a goalie move now with less than 2 weeks before the holiday break.
The trade rumour seems to have originated from the 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast. Though they have credibly broken information in the past, their accuracy with insider info has often been misses this season.
The rumour linked the Oilers to trading for Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry with 50% salary retention. Jarry is an obvious option for the Oilers - but it'd be nice to avoid adding another Dustin Schwartz student.
Now with actual insiders shutting down the idea of a goalie trade again, it seems like any move that does come to strengthen the team's weakest position will come after the holiday roster freeze.
Connor Ingram is still heating up in the AHL, now up to 9 starts after missing training camp. If any move is coming, it'll likely be calling him up before making a trade anyway.
